If you are travelling with elderly parents or small children, the massive crowds of Rajahmundry can be daunting. Antarvedi offers a completely different experience—a spiritual, quiet ghat where the Godavari meets the Bay of Bengal.
Antarvedi is located in the Konaseema district, about 110 km from Rajahmundry. While Konaseema has nearly half of the state's 440 ghats, it sees a tiny fraction of the crowds. You will not find massive barricades or kilometer-long queues here.
Why it is perfect for families: The river is wide, the current near the banks is gentle, and the steps are broad. Because the crowd is manageable, you can take your time performing your rituals without being rushed or pushed.
It is also deeply spiritual. The Antarvedi Lakshmi Narasimha Temple is located right next to the ghat. Many pilgrims combine their holy dip with a visit to the temple. The name "Antarvedi" means "the altar within," referring to the belief that the confluence of the river and sea acts as a natural sacrificial altar.
The Reality: Because it is a smaller town, luxury hotels are scarce. Most accommodations are basic guest houses or temple choultries. If you require a 3-star hotel, you will need to stay in Rajahmundry and drive down for the day.
